November 2002 Weavers Guild Meeting
Saturday, November 23rd, 4:30 - 6:00 at Jendriska's house in Farmington
In attendence Ceinwyn, Demelza, Diachbha, baby Hunter (his first Weavers Guild meeting), Emma, Jendriska, Jendriska's daugher Leah, Ellencwen, Branwyn, and Ellencwen's baby angora rabbits (Lady Jane Grey, Earl Grey and Smokey)
Member Reports
Ceinwyn Wove a tapestry salt cellar bag (green and white diamond pattern) on foam core loom.  Made a square piece of lace-knitting.  Wove a tapestry piece in shadowed houndstooth pattern.  Knitted a 15th century unicorn design in intarsia pattern.  Knitted a bag in 13th century Islamic design using intarsia technique.  Spangled a number of lace bobbins.  Spun on wheel and drop spindle.  Hand-carded large quantities of fiber.  Made grape-vine baskets.
Emma Demonstrated bobbin lace at Stan Hwyett demo in October.  Also received Order of the Evergreen (huzzah!)  Lucetted vast lengths of cord during travel, since a lucet is one of the few textile tools not confiscated by airline security.  (Guild members commented that restrictions have relaxed somewhat since immediately after 9/11;  wooden knitting needles or crochet hooks will also pass inspection.)   During travels, saw historical lace in museums in Belgium.  Made a teddy bear at a workshop in Belgium.  Worked on counted-thread embroidery.  Knitting a baby blanket for impending grand-nephew or grand-niece.
Hathewisse Demonstrated spinning at Stan Hwyett demo in October.
Diachbha Felted two bags and is weaving two belts for apprentices.  Working on a  doubleweave project which incorporates two warps, two wefts, and pickup weaving.  (Ooohs and aahs from the guild.)
Jendriska Learned to use lucet.  Researched Celtic embroidery patterns.  Currently is researching sheep and goat breeds for purchase.  The animal would be a 4H project for her daughter Core, and there is already a pen for small livestock on the farm.  Core learned kumehimo.
Ellencwen Knitted two Christmas scarves (using lace-knitting technique) and working on a third.  The scarves are made from her own hand-spun angora yarn (her spinning and her bunnies).  Knitted a scarf from the fleece of Ramesh the sheep (her own livestock).  Spun cochineal-dyed wool.  Made grapevine baskets.  Sheared angora rabbits. One of the female rabbits successfully raised a litter;  the babies are now six and a half weeks old.
Branwyn Drove to Boston to pick up free LeClerc loom, bench and swift from aunt.  Using squirrel-cage swift, wound yarn from skeins into balls. Demonstrated spinning at fundraiser for The Textile Art Alliance of the Cleveland Museum of Art.  Skirted horned Dorset fleece from Lake FarmPark;  washed half of fleece. (The horned Dorset fleece was very dirty and not as high quality as the Tunis fleece from Lake FarmPark.)
Guild Charter

Change in officers was noted.   Ceinwyn is now guildmistress, and Branwyn is secretary (the guild has only two officers).
Rabbit (Adam de Machaud du Lapin) is now recognized in the charter as the guild's patron.
Celebration of St Lydia's Day (patron saint of dyeing) is moved from July to her actual saint's day on August 3rd (or the guild meeting closest to that date).
Branwyn is now webmistress of the guild's unofficial website.
Copies of the charter were handed out to members.  Emma will forward a copy with the final revisions to Branwyn for submission to the Gwyntarian MOA&S.
Miscellania

Guild members recommended Ohio Valley carding mill.
Free to a good home--a Rambouillet wether.   See Ellencwen for details.
Next spring or summer, Jendriska offered to host a workshop in weaving cattail baskets (she has an on-site source of cattails).
At Demelza's school, a group will be marbling in the art room on a Saturday in December.  Since the intention is to create presents, the session will be before Christmas.  If interested, let Demelza know.
October Meeting Meeting was at Ellencwen's house.  Ceinwyn and Ellencwen had fun weaving grapevine baskets.  No minutes were taken.
Upcoming Events

April 26, 2003  Mid-Ohio Fiber Gathering, De Graff, Ohio
June 22-29, 2003 Midwest Weavers Conference,  Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Illinois (members commented that the location is an easy drive from northeast Ohio;  accomodations are on-campus and will be reasonably priced--besides, it is fun to stay in the dorms)
Next Meeting
Sunday, December 29th, 2:00 (ish) at Emma's house in Akron.
Branwyn and Ellencwen will bring the Tunis fleece to divide up among interested members. Part of it is dyed.  The plan is to spin it over the winter and dye the undyed portion in the spring.   Branwyn and another guild member will bring small scales to weigh the wool.
