December 2002 Weavers Guild Meeting

In attendence Emma, Demelza, Ellencwen, Hathewisse, Diachbha, baby Hunter, Ceinwyn, Branwyn
Member Reports
Emma Made bobbin lace.  Embroidered a counted-thread sampler.  Lucetted some cord.  Finished knitting the baby blanket for her new grand-niece.
Ellencwen Spun angora yarn.  Oiled the small loom (which needs some maintenance and new parts).  Finished lace-knitting five "Christmas scarves" using her own handspun angora yarn.  Made progress on the "eternal scarf" which she is knitting in  a wool/silk/angora blend (this project is "eternal" because she has been working on it for more than a year).
Hathewisse Dyed commercially-spun wool singles using acid dyes.  The acid dyes can produce medieval-looking colors and will give more consistent results than natural dyestuffs.  Wove five twill baby blankets from acrylic yarn.  From a single warp, made three rag rugs for use in her kitchen.  Wove a sampler of twill variations.    Using a twill weave, made two red and white scarves, which are both very striking.
Diachbha Wove two separate projects on a jacquard loom.  One piece was woven from linen singles, and the other piece was woven using a combination of linen and cotton.  Oohs and aahs from the guild.
Ceinwyn Wove a bag on a foam-core loom.  Lucetted cord.  Wove a lace sampler on a foam-core loom.  Knitted in unusual textured patterns (finished project will be a Christmas stocking).
Branwyn Washed the other half of the dirty Horned Dorset fleece.  Wove a chair seat from seagrass (to replace the original rush seat that the cats used as a scratching post). Wound the rest of the skein collection into balls with the help of the new swift.
Miscellania

Chai, the Gwyntarian chronicler, is publishing a bimonthly newsletter called "The White Shield."  To subscribe, send her six stamps.  To receive the shire address list (which is updated twice a year), send her two additional stamps.
Nigel has a treadle sewing machine for sale;  contact him for details.
At the December meeting, the fleece for the guild project was divided up and distributed to members (Branwyn will mail Jendriska's share). The plan is to spin the fleece over the winter and dye the undyed portion in the spring.
November Meeting Old business from last meeting--Emma will forward a copy of the guild charter with the final revisions to Branwyn for submission to the Gwyntarian MOA&S.
