Weaving a rush seat by Branwyn Uncoil only as much rope as you can handle without tangling.   Keep the coil tied with something which is easy to tie and untie (like a length of grosgrain ribbon). Otherwise, this happens.
The Illinois Cooperative Extension Service website has easy-to-follow instructions.   I purchased coils of seagrass (very inexpensive) from Earthguild
Starting to weave the seat. The seagrass was very scratchy; next time, I will soak the rope in water for a couple of hours beforehand. Note the feline assistance.
Half-way done.  The rope had some weak splices;  I recut the ends and tied them in square knots.  I also adjusted the length of the ends so that the knots would be woven on the underside of the seat. The finished project. (12/02).
